Self Portrait

This is a self portrait I was assigned to do this semester, which was my first project and my first semester in grad school. It didn't have to be an exact likeness of myself, so I just chose things about life that I love and inspire me. I made a cafe scene that is overlooking a bakery window. I was kind of inspired by the old designer Alphonse Mucha for the frame, and the inside shows my love of coffee and fashion. The small sketch on the table is suppose to be a stylized version of myself. This piece also shows my love for typography by the hand rendered type at the top. All of the linework was done by hand with a sharpie pen, which I scanned into the computer and added the texture and color to later on. I wanted the piece to have an organic feel with sketchy linework, and also have a designer feel by the way I laid down the color.

Recent Grad Illustration

I designed this one as a Biblical metaphor from James 1:23-24 "For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was." I used my sister Heather as the model and used her husband Joseph for Jesus' hands. I did all of the linework with acrylic black paint and scanned it into the computer to add the textures and colors.

Coffee Poster Series

Hopefully one day I'll be able to do something with these. I designed them senior year of college. They started out as block prints and then I scanned them into the computer and added type and photography.

A Blast From the Past

So I work for a ministry called Victory Baptist Press. We take old books with expired copyrights, redesign them, and sell them on our website www.victorybaptistpress.com. All the proceeds from our books go toward printing Bibles to send to missionaries free of charge. Pretty cool huh?
Anywho, I never really grew up reading this book called The Trail of Blood, but its a pretty big deal so I'm told. Recently my boss came to me with this book, and he wanted me to totally redesign it. No big deal right?! But what I didn't realize was that this book is a HUGE deal to a lot of people! It's had a really good response so far, which has been great for our printing ministry. I know the new cover isn't a huge stretch from the old one, but I wanted to keep familiarity so that no one has a doubt what book this is when looking at it. I accept all critiques and suggestion!
You should definitely check out the website to see what my job's all about, and to see if there's any books you might be interested in. We got tons of good clean literature that might be just what you've been looking for.
